Hi all,
I haven't been on this website for quite some time, but thought this was the perfect situation to post something again.
Just over half a year ago, my beloved Lag The Blues Louisiane fell of a stage, and got damaged pretty badly. I immediately checked with some luthiers in my area what the possibilities were to have it repaired, but they all said it would cost me a LOT, and the results would be uncertain. I also emailed Denis, the webmaster of this site, for advice. He gave me the email address of Michel Chavarria, founding father and director of Lag Guitars himself, and the email address of someone at AB Music, the distributor of Lag for the Benelux area.
Both replied quickly and were very helpful. Michel immediately assured me he would not let me down, and he kept his word! He offered to refinish the body, for a price of 250 euros (which is HALF of what two Dutch luthiers would charge for the same work), and maybe some more if Lag also had to replace or repair the flamed maple veneer and the 'faux binding' of the body. He did warn me they were very busy, and would not have time for the repair immediately. It might take several months.
It ended up taking approximately 5 months, but man, they did one hell of a job! The body looks as good as new! The maple veneer was not replaced, but a tiny bit of new veneer was placed on the damaged part of the top. It fits so well, you can't notice it! The sunburst was beautifully redone and looks fantastic too. And the price...was indeed 250 euros!!! Nothing short of amazing!
I want to compliment Lag for their excellent work, and Michel for keeping his word. I also want to thank Denis for his help and advice.
I have not yet reassembled the guitar (I only shipped the body to France) and have therefore not yet been able to play it, but I'm sure the guitar will look and feel as good as new!
Kind regards,
Jeroen
